At SightText, your privacy is our core mission. This policy explains how we handle your data. The short version: We don't collect your data; everything stays on your device or in your own encrypted cloud backup.

            Local Processing First: SightText uses Google ML Kit for on-device Text Recognition (OCR). Your photos and PDFs are processed locally on your phone and are never sent to our servers.
        

1. Information We Collect

SightText is a local-first application. We do not maintain any external servers to store your personal information, images, or extracted text.

2. Permissions and Usage

To function correctly, SightText requests the following permissions:

Photos/Media/Files: Used to scan your images for text and build a searchable index.
Camera: Used if you choose to scan documents or images in real-time.
Biometrics (Optional): Used to provide a "Security Lock" feature. Your biometric data never leaves the Android system hardware.

3. Cloud Backup & Encryption

If you choose to use the "Cloud Backup" feature:

Your search index is encrypted on your device using AES-GCM encryption with a password you provide.
The encrypted file is uploaded to your own Google Drive App Data folder.
We cannot see, read, or access your data because we do not have your encryption password.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services which may collect data according to their own policies:

Google Play Services: Required for core Android functionality.
AdMob (Free Version): Used to show rewarded advertisements. AdMob may collect device identifiers for ad personalization.
Google Play Billing: Used to process Pro upgrades.

5. Data Security

We use industry-standard PBKDF2 key derivation and AES-GCM 256-bit encryption for all sensitive data stored in your local index and cloud backups.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the app.
